Forest School

Forest School is a long-term process of regular sessions that allow children to develop confidence and build self-esteem by playing and exploring together in a woodland setting. The sessions are largely child-led and subsequent sessions are planned around the children’s interests.

Activities such as tree climbing and lighting fires give children opportunities to take supported risks, building self-confidence and resilience in the process. Activities such as sawing and drilling help to develop the children’s physical and creative abilities, all the while appreciating and discovering the changing seasons in the natural world around them.

Staff value the holistic approach of Forest School which allows them to focus on the ‘whole child’. We believe Forest School greatly helps with getting children to a stage where they are ready to start school. An additional benefit is that our Forest School sessions help children to make strong and lasting links with the many green spaces within our village.
